KENDUSKEAG - Cindy was born on September 28, 1953 in Vallejo, CA and passed away Saturday, April 15, 2023 in Kenduskeag at the age of 69 surrounded by her loving family after a long and fierce battle with cancer. Cindy was the daughter of the late Celeste (Staley) McKusick, of Springville, CA and Earl McKusick of Newport. She grew up in Carmel before moving to Exeter, CA in the late 60’s. She attended Exeter Union High School in Exeter, CA where she met and married Loy “Ike” Berry in 1970. She lived in the central California area for many years while raising her daughter before moving back to Maine in 1989. Cindy was hard-working and was often admired for her ability to excel in many different jobs in the manufacturing industry. She worked for many years as a machinist producing canal gate equipment in CA. She also spent several years working in the manufacturing field in central Maine before she found her true calling working as an Education Technician at Nokomis Regional High for 20 years. During this time, she also enjoyed her work as a property caretaker for several families on Sebasticook Lake in Newport. Cindy loved the outdoors. She loved bird-watching, camping, fishing, and hiking. She loved gardening and was passionate about her hundreds of registered daylilies. She loved listening to music and taking road trips. She loved spending time at the ocean and swimming with her grandchildren. Cindy was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Nancy White. She is sadly missed by her surviving companion, David Closson and his children; her daughter Nerissa Berry and companion Eric Lovely; grandchildren Emmerald and Justin Brown, and Domanic Lovely. She is also survived by her brothers Earl Larry and wife Lavaune McKusick, Terry McKusick and Wendy Hunt, and Michael McKusick, all of California, and Ronald McKusick of Arkansas; her former sisters-in-law, Regina Goodman of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Nancy Berry of Simi Valley, CA. Cindy will also be missed by her beloved students and staff at Nokomis Regional High, where she will be forever remembered as a “Warrior.” Above all, she truly loved her family and she put her heart and soul into everything she did for them. And she didn’t just mean the world to her family, to her family she was the world. She had a keen eye and a beautiful heart. She loved life and always said, “Make every second count.” Her smile, beauty, and generosity will forever be missed by those who loved her. Dear Mom, you are forever in my heart. Thank you for being my best friend, love you, Nerissa. We all love you, Nana. More than you could ever know. Funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Friday, April 21, 2023 at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main Street, Newport with the Rev. David Gardiner officiating.
