Dwayne N. Lurz

A memorial service was held for Dwayne N. Lurz, 68, of Lemon Cove.

Dwayne Lurz was born in Valentine, Nebraska on Nov. 15, 1938 to Joseph and Edith Lurz. He graduated from Chadron State College in 1959. After teaching in Wyoming, he earned his Master's degree from the University of South Dakota in 1963.

He taught in Los Angeles before moving to Exeter in 1964 where he taught life sciences at Exeter High School. Dwayne valued education and the devotion to his profession and his students was evident in the classroom. He retired in 1995.

In retirement, Dwayne enjoyed selling the various citrus from his farm in Lemon Cove at the Templeton Farmers' Market. He also enjoyed many trips abroad, including Europe, Asia, and Central America. An avid reader his entire life, Dwayne was known for interest in history especially of the American West.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years Pam; son Tim and daughter-in-law Christina; daughter Becky Honig and son-in-law Craig; son Kevin and daughter-in-law Johanna; grandchildren Eddie and Aaron Lurz and Joseph and Madelyn Honig; siblings: Lois, Joe, Gilbert and Herbert of Nebraska; Ivan of Oklahoma.
